Introduction

The material on this review page was collected during the Merriman Summer School 2009, which was opened on Saturday, 16th of August. It’ll give a taste of the event to those who weren’t able to attend, and hopefully bring back a few fond memories for those of us who were there.

The poem ‘Gobnait’s End’. A native of the County Clare, Saint Gobnait was forced to flee her home, going first to Inis Oirr, where an angel told her that she would find the place of her ressurection where nine white deer were gathered. She set forth on a long journey and finally found them in Gort na Tiobratan, in the Mid‑Cork village of Baile Mhúirne.
